Part B. Technology Lesson: How to Construct a Time Machine

Materials
- The novel, Fortunately, The Milk by Neil Gaiman
- SMART board
- Computer
- Video cam.
Objective
For this activity, students have the choice of creating a PowerPoint presentation or a video. The Science Channel has a short video, How to Build Your Own Time Machine as an example or a slide presentation, 10 Step Guide to Building a Working Time Machine you can offer to students for ideas on how to approach this task.
Searching the internet beforehand will glean other examples. Remember, the time machine in the novel is made from a “large cardboard box with pebbles on it . . .” so refer to the illustration in the book.
It might be best to have the students work in groups since this is a big task. The following criteria must be met:
The Slide Presentation
- The slide presentation must be a minimum of 10 slides and a maximum of 20.
- There must be audio and/or music throughout the presentation.
- The result should show the actual time machine.
- Give credit to the author, Neil Gaiman.
- Display a title that includes hyphenated adjectives (see Compound Adjectives Worksheet ).
The Video Presentation
- The video must not exceed more than 30 minutes.
- There must be audio and/or rehearsed dialogue.
- The result should show the actual time machine.
- Give credit to the author, Neil Gaiman.
- Display a title that includes hyphenated adjectives (see Compound Adjectives Worksheet ).
